Here are some tips from marital counselors to ensure a healthy marriage:
1. Each person should have individual interests and time alone from time to time
2. Never take each other for granted. Every person needs to feel important and needed. Let your spouse know how important he/she is to you on a regular basis.
3. Communication ~ talk about everything. And talk about it up front ~ discuss finances, children, elder-care options for your parents ~ anything that can come up during the marriage that can cause stress is worth talking about now while not in the throws of a crisis
4. Becoming parents can sometimes take a toll on the marriage. Make sure you go out on dates and schedule time alone with just the two of you.
